i don't think there is anything wrong with making a sales
pitch for vorbris <http://www.vorbis.com>.  and while we're
at it, we should be making a sales pitch for the open
source version of the ASF codec, divX
<http://www.projectmayo.com/>, currently under development
by Project Mayo.

these tools are crucial developments and deserve some
support.

and while we're evangelising, let's not forget the
importance of the open source version of the quicktime
streaming server, Darwin
<http://www.publicsource.apple.com/projects/streaming/>,
which is, as far as i know, one of the only open source
streaming servers available.  
the capabilities of the darwin server, make quicktime
streaming a serious option for people who don't have the
funds available to invest in real's increasingly buggy,
problematic and awful software.

i've copied this email to Rene Liethof (from XS4ALL) who if
he is feeling charitable, may want to add a few words about
DivX and / or Vorbris, and Jesse Reynolds (from Virtual
Artists in Australia), who may want to add a few words
about Darwin.
