HI Rasa,
good to see there are so many refurbishments and modifications to the
xchange home on the web... some of which will of course be most useful. In
particular the live schedule if we can get it in to view. In any case I
shall continue to present it as I go around what would be useful would be a
recongnisable visual to addition the Xchange logo that points to x-i .. has
this been discussed?
We too have been flowing through changes and have rearranged some of the
stucture of SPC. as you will see in the sig here there are now a variety of
spaces avaliable to choose from, some of whiich are at a very early stage
of development.
With backspace physical location gone, we would like to focus in on these
new locations and with this in mind could you now change the link name on
http://xchange.re-lab.net/u/ for backspace radio to rad.spc.org
[radiospace]. I realise that in some ways this erodes the pathway from
backspace but makes the way ahead more defined for radiospace.
There are so many new componants to be accounted for here, that I find it
hard to know where to start. All seem to be loose and insignificant
compared to the weight backspace accumulated, I am sure that some of them
will grow and develop to compliment the previous work but that seems way
off from here.
We will be setting up an on-line merchandising componant of CONSUME over
the next few months that will be available for use by xchangers, I will
keep you informed of its development. CONSUME shop has made a nervous start
and it looks likely that its location will be changed shortly, in the
meantime we are still looking for stuff to sell there, perhaps you have
some ideas.
The spc.org server is at the hub of these projects and we are proceeding
with the redistribution of streaminng and project hosting as we did at
backspace but with renewed clarity and vigour.
Some of the questions we were often asked about streaming and training on a
more institutional level, will now be carried by learn.spc that will enable
us to raise some suporting cash I hope. This will involve the
reintroduction of some backspacers and friends as paid co-ordinators in
learning environments. For those who are atill hungry for backspace type
access, I can only recommend they make what they can of the new public
resourses.
True, quality public access is still rare here but it does now seem that an
offer of access is being made on a much wider basis, on the high street and
in libraries and schools at a level that could be utilised by those who
have so far been restricted to the fringe, to the labs and spaces across
exchange. My hope is that some of the backspaceers will find their way to
such places and effect useful change there. Do you have a similar
experience in your location is it possible to view this change?
I spend much of my time at home as I look after my children till 3pm each
day...I get out in the afternoon and that makes it hard to get to see
peeople at work, instead I get to meet them out at events and in bars... it
is quite a strange change after so much time held in one place...I am
pleased backspace has now gone and that it did not just move to a new
location, it has left the way ahead open for new experimentaton. I would
like to visit some of the spaces around europe, that we have so long been
associated with, that have always been so hard to escape to in the past. If
you can recommend any over the others I would be pleased to hear.
thats more than I expected to get into
cheers
James
