well, although - may be not :)
first i thought it doesn't make much sense and it doesn't really mean to 'close' the list, if we take this option (when everyone of not-subscri-
bers also can post messages to the list) off -
as me and jaanis - we are list tech-administrators and we receive 'bounced' messages anyway, for example - with too long cc: list - or with admin-request (such like 'subscribe', and others) in subject or in the first line of the message body - then we redirect them to list anyway
also it is not so often, when people not subscribed to the list post something (well, more often then these really are spam-messages)

but later thinking of it and discussing about it with others here at e-lab, there came out some interesting ideas, like -

- spamming is one of the internet realities and few spam-messages just keep us not isolated from other net-life-activities
(of course, if it is not really too much, but i have doubts, if for somebody could be an interest to 'bomb' such a specific and not-big list)

anyway - the openness is one of the most interesting things in the networks to deal with, and often it is not so easy and often really unclear - when what-smth is still open and when it already is hopelessly closed ;-)

also specific context already itself creates kind of semi-closed environment, so - while there really is no important need to close it, probably, better to leave it as is,

and - isn't it very suggestive and 'artistic' subject:
"Do It Yourself or We Can Do It For You?"
;-)

...these were just some thoughts, just to say -
list is still open -

warm greetings,
rasa
