it depends on whose server it goes on. at the university where i work we
run the cron module which can do fancy things with time. i just wrote a
script which writes a date stamp onto a file/entry, makes that date the
name of the file and also puts that entry into a piece of html which is an
index. in this case a cron script would then have to be written so that it
pulls things out of the file. that's more difficult then say pulling whole
files out that have a date-name and i/m not sure i could do it.

perl is really great for this by the way. one of the commercial calendar
sites invites you to put your entry into a perl form/cgi. in this form you
can say whether it is a regular broadcast or a one off. when a viewer calls
up the day's entry, they would get all the one-off streams plus appended
to the file would be regular broadcasts.

what do you think? it's not as sophisticated as a hunter gatherer that
looks for strings whilst they are running, but then i haven't got the new
real player which lets you surf channels which would presumably use some
interesting module. does anyone have one to put under the microscope>?
