* Share a Quickie *

An invitation to the online sound and art community to share a
Quicktime.

Send in your quicktime images and we'll process them using Tom Erbe's
SoundHack QT Coder function. This function saves sonograms of a
soundfile in QuickTime movies or converts QuickTime movies into sound by
sonographic analysis. It will convert a soundfile into a QuickTime movie
and will convert the QuickTime movie back into the same sound. It can
turn any QuickTime movie into a soundfile. The QuickTime movie will
contain a series of sonograms representing a sound. The sonograms have
linear frequency on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal axis.
Color saturation is used to represent ampiltude and hue is used to
represent delta phase. 

How to enter:

* Submit a compressed Quicktime (temporal image only) to R O A R. Send
email notification of intention to do so and FTP instructions will be
made available.
* Quicktimes should be of a limited duration. 3 minutes maximum please.
* After submitted Quicktimes are processed all sound files will be made
available via FTP to participating artists.
* Artists are then asked to choose/download any number of files and
create their own  soundpiece.
* Artists  have a two week time limit to create the work.
* The work should be  a duration of 1 to 3 minutes (maximum).
* By the posted deadline soundwork should be resubmitted as a compressed
Quicktime Sound only movie. Files may be in mono or stereo and at a
prefered sample rate of 16 bit, 44K.
* Only compressed files may be resubmitted via FTP.
* Uncompressed audio (on DAT or Cassette) can be resubmitted via post.
* All resubmitted work will be streamed on R O A R.
* The 'best of' will be pressed onto CD and submitted to Audio and
Multimedia forums and festivals. Selected audio may also be Web-Cast via
other sites.
* A limited number of CD copies will be made available on request.
* Artists retain copyright on original Quicktime and final soundwork
only.
* INVITATION starts MAYDAY the 4th of May 1998.
* Deadline for submission of Quicktimes - Monday the 18th of May. 
* Quicktimes will be processed from the 18th to the 22nd of May and
resulting soundfiles will be made available to participating artists on
the 23rd and 24th of May.
* Deadline for final submission of completed soundwork - Monday the 8th
of June.
