hi all

The connecting of many radio stations via the net,
and making connections between online and offline broadcasting
has been an idea between many people for a long time.
It is nice to see Heath Bunting is now also supportive of this,
as he was very sceptical before.

The idea of connecting stations has been brought up many times,
and is happening/has been happening, for instance during the
Eurotop here in the Netherlands piratestations logged in to
the website of De Vrije Keijser, The Free Emperor, to make a
national pirate broadcast possible. The whole idea behind the
exchange mailinglist and radio Ozone is similar, to create a network
of alternative broadcasters. There have been several collaborations,
and many more are in the making.

Many of us are allready doing this! But the more, the better....
it should grow and grow and grow... and its strength lies in its
flexibility rather then in a constant stream, so please do not drop
all those wonderful temporary collaboration projects to do 24 hour
streaming all the same alltogether. I love those projects, XLR,
Exchange, Convex TV, Fakeshop and others! Zina also...

The walkman idea sounds great btw, but I think connecting to the ether
still needs to be a focus, as too many people do not have net.connections
or the capability to either receive these webcasts well on their computer,
or to listen to them for longer periods then say a few minutes.
This will remain so for a long time. Also for tactical media usage
purposes one should not 'ditch' the ether too quickly.
Those of you that have doubts when thinking of making this connection:
the quality of sound of a webcast should not be an obstacle in
broadcasting it through ether. Too often people give this as
an objection against retransmitting/spreading webcasts through ether.
Imperfection is a construct, or maybe I should say: digital clean
perfection is a construct and it is in imperfection that there are many
different shades/layers/forms of beauty and 'visions of sound'.

The webwalker:
There was someone at the university of NewYork developing a portable
webbrowser from off the shelf hardware, called Nick West. This was to
create an alternative cityguide, so it would also be connected to
global positioning satelites. It would have been finished last autumn,
but we lost contact. Are there any other techies busy with similar
stuff?

and a question for old sceptics: So when IS the net going to collapse?
According to predictions this was to be about now... there are always
ways.

Nixon:
An army loses if it does not win, a guerilla wins if it does not lose.

They will never get rid of us.

love and hope for better and more communications
