The pilot for a much bigger collaborative streaming project investigating
the relationship of sound + visuals and the issue of digital decay.

"what happens when something is digitized and then transfered many times
through different processes of compression and alteration?
what is the process of digital decay? can we maintain a sense of history,
of precedence within an electronic realm?"

The piece works by generating a series of web-cam image streams with
accompanying audio. The information for generating a particular stream is
contained in a "room" on the server. The user/browser/participant can move
between rooms to navigate through the different streams.

Each of these rooms is developed by one of the artists. The artists are
working with the idea of digital decay and filtering processes.

devolve into has been developed by Peter Courtemanche with Shawn Chapelle,
Joelle Ciona and Lori Weidenhammer working through the Western Front in
Vancouver, partner of Kunstradio in the ongoing WIENCOUVER 2000 project.

devolve into has been produced for and together with the MUSIKPROTOKOLL at
steirischer herbst 2K. The live installation and performance in the ORF
foyer in Graz on oct 15 2000 is actually the last project of this festival
dealing with
sounds + visuals: Bilderverbot.
