Greetings.

I received your announcment requesting proposals for commissioned works
via a forward from a friend Reni Hoffmueller of Labor in Graz Austria.
If the invitation is open to international applicants, I hope that an initial
proposal by email will suffice.

Thank you for your considerations.

> aims of the work

The aim of the work is to expand and extended electronic techniques in
compositional music. The results would be a finished soundscape that can be
utilized for filmscore and/or performance arts such as dance, sculptural
installation or perhaps background music to spoken word.

> description of the project

Create sounds by jamming signals through various
electronic/electro-mechanical devices NOT normally designed for musical
purposes (i.e. optic scanners, toasters, CPUs, digital camers....etc)
multi-tracking the electro-acoustic outputs in an orchestrated operatic
dialoge. The project would be highly experimental and certain to yeild some
wild and hopefully unusual sounds that can not be mimiced by conventional
signal processing.

> brief technical requirements of the production of the work (if
> applying for a commission which NOWfm will help to produce)

* transportation for collection of electronic/electro-mechanical devices
and applicable functioning junk.

* recording studio w/ 8-16 track recording and 2 Track DAT, plus the
standard misc. outboard gear and microphones (Vintage ribbon mics and/or
high end Sennheisers ?)

* Signal Sources: tone generator, CD & Cassette players, Standard and short
wave radios, previous NOWfm broadcast materials.

* 2 channel Oscilloscope and probes

* Workbench w/ VOM, resitor and capacitor simulators, various values of
resitors
and capacitors, solder station, electronic repair tools, scrap:
wire,screws,
  nuts, bolts,
interface jacks to audio equiptment, miscellaneous components...etc
i.e. a virtual junk shop of electronics.

If a seperate location for building devices would be more conducive,
great. It
would be wise to have the Stereo reel to reel and microphones on location to
record the results while orchestrating the sounds later at the multitrack
  studio.

> budget breakdown (showing other income if needed)

Fee and Production costs independent of NOWfm:

* Transportation to and from New York to Nottingham. ~ £500
* Two weeks residency with a private room near work shop or recording studio.

> a CV and /or examples of past work (please include a stamped addressed

Recorded example of previous works posted 30 June 1998.(Should arrive in
one week) The cassette will be primarily from a recording that I
constructed in 1996 titled "Mad Art River". The work is a composit based on
soundscapes, organics and an independent electronic technique called
circuit bending developed by
Reed Ghazala.
