(Xchange) the end of Art Dirt
This was posted on Rhizome last Friday. It is very sad to see one
of the oldest and most interesting art radio shows on the net being
dumped like this, archive and all. We will do a very short in memoriam
service this afternoon for Artdirt at the beginning of the Convex TV
and Berlin net.radio days online and ether radioshow, which starts at
17.00 o clock CET. Look at http://www.mikro.org/
We will introduce the participants that are present (Ozone, RIS, Convex,
Kunstradio, Radioqualia, Herbert Meyer and outcast.nl) and then discuss
different interpretations of net.radio and their relation to local
medialandscapes.
Hi Everyone,
I'm sorry to announce that Art Dirt is no longer streaming
from Pseudo studios. The heads of Pseudo decided it wasn't commercial
enough to continue support. In a rather aggressive move they have also
removed the Art Dirt archives from the web. This is probably all to the
good. The people at Pseudo admit they know nothing about art and are more
interested in mainstream media. I have kept copies of the audio programs
and some of the video programs of Art Dirt. I assume at some future point
they will be of historical interest. Galinsky who is the senior producer
for Pseudo's performance channel(channelp.com) has said that this is just a
hiatus for Art Dirt and perhaps they will bring back the program. I
seriously doubt it.
I would like to thank everyone who has graciously been a guest on
Art Dirt and apologize to those who we didn't get around to having on the
show. We've had quite an interesting time for the past three years.
The best part of Art Dirt was the social aspect of meeting people
in a forum setting. This functioned in a similar manner to the idea of
"social sculpture" that Joseph Beuys had put forth in many of his
"Aktions". Indeed I view Art Dirt as a collaboration between Robbin Murphy,
Adrianne Wortzel, myself and all the people who were our guests. You cannot
put a price tag on that type of energy. Sadly that is the problem. If you
would like to comment on the end of Art Dirt you can email:

Meanwhile I have been asked to be a panelist on an online forum for PBS. I
and other people around the US have been asked to comment on the POV
program of independant filmakers that is broadcast on US educational
television. This forum is quite interesting insofar as it deals with
mainstream social issues in the United States. You may access the POV
website at: <http://www.pbs.org/pov/salon/index.shtml> Check out salon 3,
which is the group I'm in. Thanks for all you time and attention in reading
through this post.
