there's a free high-quality speech-synthesizer around called 'Mbrola'
(http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis/mbrola.html) and the multilingual
phonetizer 'Festival' (http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival.html) to
build powerful text-to-speech-systems for a few european languages...
